20 Years -REACH Milestones
1987-2007

REACH Air Medical Services, headquartered in Santa Rosa, Calif. provides helicopter and airplane patient transportation for critically ill or injured patients.  REACH supports bases in Concord, Lakeport, Lodi, Marysville, Redding, Sacramento, and Santa Rosa.

REACH was one of the first air transport programs to be fully CAMTS certified and has one of the most aggressive safety programs in the air ambulance industry.  REACH was also the first air ambulance company to receive FAA approval to respond in low-visibility conditions using established GPS routing procedures.  REACH continues to be a leader in air ambulance safety, currently installing Night Vision Goggle equipment in its aircraft to increase night flying safety.  REACH is privately owned and operated.



April 17, 1987: REACH performs its first flight from Ukiah Valley Medical Center to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

January 1990: Airplane Services Added

January 1993: REACH becomes preferred provider for Children’s Hospital of Oakland.

July 1, 1993: REACH II established in Vacaville, Calif

October 1995: 5,000 Flight Milestone

October 14, 1996: REACH 24-Hour Communications Center established

March 21, 1998: REACH achieves CAMTS accreditation

April 13, 1998: REACH II relocates to Sacramento, Calif.

April 13, 1998: REACH III established in Concord, Calif.

1999: REACH becomes provider of aircraft, pilots, mechanics, and billing for AirMedTeam in Redding, Calif.

March 2000: REACH establishes full-time clinical Training Institute

October 4, 2000: REACH founder, medical director and CEO, John L. McDonald passes away.

November 2000: REACH is the first air ambulance company in the United States to receive approval by the FAA to utilize its own GPS routes to specific hopsitals and other landing sites.  Gary McCalla assumes Medical Director position.

2001: Jim Adams assumes CEO position

April 17, 2002: 15 Year Milestone

April 17, 2002: First annual Dr. McDonald JUST GO! run/walk takes place, raising money for the John L. McDonald, M.D. Paramedic Education  Scholarship Endowment

2003: Respiratory Therapists become part of REACH clinical team.

February 2004:REACH 6 established in Lakeport, Calif.

Spring 2004: Night Vission Goggles installed at REACH 6. 

February 1, 2005: REACH Maintenance and Medical Base Consolidate Operations at Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport’s Largest Hangar.  REACH maintenance department and Santa Rosa’s REACH 1 and 50 crews move from 5010 Flightline Drive, our original building, to new 31,446 facility at 2360 Becker Blvd.

April 17, 2005: REACH 2 base relocates from Sacramento to Lodi, Calif., REACH 7 is established in Marysville, Calif. REACH assumes AirMedTeam, Redding, and begins operating REACH 5 in Redding.

June 2005: REACH 50, fixed-wing division, moves from Santa Rosa to Sacramento, Calif., and REACH formally established a second fixed-wing operation, REACH 55, operating 12-hours a day in Santa Rosa, Calif.

August 2005: REACH for Life Membership program launches.

September 2005: REACH Air Medical Services hosts their seventh annual fund-raiser golf tournament, “Drive for Kids”, on September 16, 2005 in Redding, Calif.  The “Drive for Kids” tournament, a non profit organization, raises money to support pediatric healthcare needs in the North State.

November 2005: REACH performs 27,000 flights.

May 22, 2006: REACH Establishes Helicopter Serivice in Corvallis, Oregon
